Upon completion of this facility investment, production capacity is expected to increase from 3,600 tons per year to approximately 5,400 tons.
Isotropic graphite has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent dimensional stability at high temperatures, strong resistance to thermal shock, and high chemical resistance. Due to its wide range of applications, demand is expected to grow in various industries such as semiconductors, solar power, and nuclear power.
2DM, headquartered in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, plans to establish a carbon nanotube (CNT) manufacturing plant worth 30 billion KRW (site area 6,877.9㎡) within the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex as part of this agreement. The annual production capacity of carbon nanotubes is expected to be 120 tons of powder and 2,400 tons of dispersion.
Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are conductive materials used in secondary batteries, possessing high electrical conductivity. They are known to be about 100 to 300 times stronger than steel and approximately twice as light as aluminum.
Additionally, CNTs have the effect of improving the performance and efficiency of secondary batteries, and their utilization and demand in the secondary battery sector are expected to expand further.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “We thank the companies for deciding to invest in Pohang despite difficult economic conditions. We will actively support promising companies to grow into world-class enterprises through their investment in Pohang and do our best to establish Pohang as a global advanced industrial city.”
