Four High School Students from Busan Receive the 'Korea Talent Award'

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 24th that four high school students from the Busan area were selected for the ‘2024 Korea Talent Award.’

View original imageHosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation, the ‘Korea Talent Award’ is a talent selection program that discovers individuals who create new value with creativity and passion, show consideration for others, and contribute to the development of the community, supporting them to grow as future pillars of the nation.
This year, a total of 100 recipients were selected nationwide, including 50 high school students and 50 university students and young adults.
In Busan, the selected students were Jaeyoon Go from Korea Science Academy of KAIST, Minho Jeong and Seungjun Chu from Busan Il Science High School, and Joon Heo from Busan Computer Science High School.
Jaeyoon Go (3rd year, Korea Science Academy of KAIST) is an outstanding student with a strong desire for improvement, altruism, and consideration. He received the gold prize at the 2023 Korea Youth Physics Tournament (KYPT) and the bronze medal at the 2023 International Youth Physics Tournament (OYPT), and was awarded the Hansung Nobel Young and Gifted Scholarship for his creative thinking and passion.
Minho Jeong (3rd year, Busan Il Science High School), who has a strong interest in mathematics, possesses excellent academic and research capabilities as well as collaboration skills. He won the silver prize and a special award at the 2024 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition and received an excellence award at the 2023 American Mathematics Competition.
Seungjun Chu (3rd year, Busan Il Science High School) is a convergent talent with knowledge in both humanities and sciences. He published a paper in an academic journal in the field of information and communication and participated as a member of the Korean delegation at the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair based on this work. He received the grand prize at the 2023 Science Gifted Creative Research Presentation Contest and an excellence award in the Industry and Energy category at the 69th National Science Exhibition.

Joon Heo (3rd year, Busan Computer Science High School), a versatile developer with diligence, won the grand prize (1st place) at the 59th National Skills Competition and received awards at the KOSPO Information Security Competition and the SW·AI Education Hackathon. He developed various projects such as a smart trash bin, an ingredient management system, and an AI-based smart necklace for the visually impaired, striving to contribute to solving various social issues.
