Adding Designs to Used PET Bottles... Ulsan Student Practices Carbon Neutrality with 'Petbot'
100 Outstanding Students Practicing Resource Circulation Using Petbot
From Collection to Upcycling, Expanding Plastic Circulation
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) announced on the 23rd that it selected 100 outstanding students who practiced resource circulation activities using 'Petbot' from the 16th to the 20th.
'Petbot (LVR-15090P)' is a PET bottle collection machine provided free of charge last September to Ulsan Plastic Resource Circulation Leading Schools through a business agreement between the Ulsan Office of Education, Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., Lotte Chemical, Lotte Aluminum, and the Sae Hwal-yong Research Institute.
This event was organized to spread an autonomous carbon-neutral school culture by experiencing the process of collecting used PET bottles with Petbots installed in schools, donating them to local companies, and transforming them into eco-friendly products.
The activity was conducted at 10 plastic resource circulation leading schools: Dajeon Elementary School, Okdong Elementary School, Sinjeong Elementary School, Gulhwa Elementary School, Hoyeon Elementary School, Okdong Middle School, Hyundai Middle School, Seongsin High School, Sinseon Girls' High School, and Hyundai High School.
Students learned that used PET bottles are not simply discarded but can be reborn as products with new value through ideas and design.
The 100 selected outstanding students were awarded eco-friendly products made by reusing waste plastic, such as bags, sneakers, umbrellas, and tumblers.
Lee Chae-jin, CEO of Sae Hwal-yong Research Institute, said, "Plastic waste is a timely challenge humanity must solve," adding, "We will do our best to help students deeply recognize the importance of the plastic circular economy and actively participate in reuse activities."
