2nd Place 'Moana 2' Draws 3 Million Viewers
The movie 'Firefighter' maintained its position at the top of the weekend box office for two consecutive weeks. The animation 'Moana 2' surpassed 3 million cumulative viewers, and 'Hidden Face' exceeded 1 million viewers.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 23rd, over the past weekend (20th-22nd), 'Firefighter' (directed by Kwak Kyung-taek) attracted 510,872 viewers, securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on the 4th, it has surpassed a cumulative audience of 2,596,634.
With an increase in family audiences toward the year-end, animated films showed strong performance. The live-action adaptation of the animation 'The Lion King,' titled 'Mufasa: The Lion King' (directed by Barry Jenkins), which was released on the 18th, drew 234,991 viewers, debuting at second place. Its cumulative audience reached 311,218.
Disney's animation 'Moana 2' (directed by Dave Derrick Jr.) attracted 198,246 viewers, ranking third, and surpassed a cumulative audience of 3,048,425. The animation 'Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Our Dinosaur Diary' (directed by Sasaki Shinobu) gathered 185,763 viewers, taking fourth place. The film adaptation of the musical of the same name, 'Wicked' (directed by Jon Chu), drew 100,758 viewers, ranking fifth.
In sixth place was 'Big Family' starring actors Kim Yoon-seok and Lee Seung-gi with 35,615 viewers, seventh was the foreign film 'Substance' with 28,788 viewers, and eighth was the documentary 'First Lady' about Kim Geon-hee with 16,140 viewers. 'First Lady,' released on the 12th, has attracted a cumulative audience of 66,147.

'Hidden Face,' starring Song Seung-heon, Jo Yeo-jeong, and Park Ji-hyun, which was released on the 20th of last month, added 12,292 viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 1,001,874. This is the first time this year that a Korean film rated for youth restriction or higher has surpassed 1 million viewers, and it is the first occurrence in five years since 'Tazza: One Eyed Jack' (2019). The total number of viewers who visited theaters over the weekend was 1,421,325.
