Hyosung Heavy Industries and Korea South-East Power Sign MOU to Jointly Promote Hydrogen Engine Power Generation Project
Hyosung Heavy Industries is targeting the hydrogen power generation market in collaboration with Korea South-East Power.
On the 20th, Hyosung Heavy Industries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea South-East Power for the 'Joint Promotion of Hydrogen Engine Power Generation' at the Changwon plant. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Woo Tae-hee, CEO of Hyosung Heavy Industries, and Kang Ki-yoon, President of Korea South-East Power.
Through this agreement, both companies plan to establish a strategic partnership for the future power industry and seek to strengthen competitiveness and expand business in the hydrogen power generation sector. By combining their core competencies, the two companies will jointly promote hydrogen engine and clean hydrogen power generation projects, including ▲ power generation projects using hydrogen and hydrogen compound combustion engines ▲ demonstration projects for clean hydrogen production and utilization ▲ other clean hydrogen and hydrogen compound-related businesses and technological cooperation.
Hyosung Heavy Industries began full-scale development of hydrogen engines in 2022, and in April of this year, successfully commercialized the world's first hydrogen combustion engine, operating a 1MW hydrogen engine power generator installed at the Ulsan Hyosung Chemical Yongyeon 2 plant. In terms of safety, it passed safety inspections by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation and the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, gaining recognition for commercialization. Having completed technology verification and performance evaluation, Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to enter the clean hydrogen power market and create various business opportunities.
Hydrogen engine power generators use hydrogen as fuel to produce electricity without carbon emissions and are suitable for use as distributed power sources. Unlike renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, whose power output varies depending on environmental conditions, hydrogen engines can provide stable power generation, attracting attention as a future clean energy source.
