Yeungnam University Department of Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Baedasol, First Korean Recipient of the ‘Frans Habraken Award’
Da-sol Bae, a graduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yeungnam University (President Choi Oechul), was announced on the 19th as the recipient of the ‘2024 Frans Habraken Best Paper Award.’ This prestigious award is given to first authors or corresponding authors under the age of 30 for papers published in the SCI-level international journal Applied Surface Science. Da-sol Bae is the first Korean to receive this award.
Bae’s paper, published in Applied Surface Science (JCR top 2.4%), covers the oxidation reaction of C2H6 and the mechanism of ethylene production. The study analyzed the C2H6 oxidation reaction on the IrO2(110) surface using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and microkinetic simulations, elucidating the complete oxidation mechanism of C2H6. Notably, the research newly identified a critical step in the C2H4 formation process, attracting significant attention from the academic community. This achievement was recognized with the award.
