Various Activities Including Problem Discovery Workshops and Performance Presentations Conducted Since Last August
Publication of 'Performance Report' Documenting Activities Aimed at Improving Children's Rights and Building Community Consensus
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has concluded the activities of the Child Participation Committee, which has been operating since August, and published a 'Performance Report' summarizing the achievements of the committee's work.
The Gwangjin-gu Child Participation Committee was established to guarantee children's right to participate and to reflect their voices in policies. The district recruits children under the age of 18 residing in the area to form and operate the committee annually.
This year, 18 children, consisting of 4th to 6th-grade elementary school students and middle school students, served as committee members.
The committee held regular monthly meetings to share children's thoughts on local issues and conducted various programs such as basic education on children's rights, problem identification workshops, and solution idea workshops. These programs helped children understand the importance of policy participation and develop communication skills with others.
In particular, last month, the child members held a 'Performance Presentation' where they directly proposed policy ideas. Innovative and diverse solutions were suggested from the children's perspective on social issues they face daily, such as smoking near schools and jaywalking.
Going forward, Gwangjin-gu plans to actively incorporate feasible proposals made by the child members into policy development.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I hope that by recording the activities of the Gwangjin-gu Child Participation Committee throughout this year, we can foster intergenerational empathy and enhance children's awareness of their rights." He added, "Gwangjin-gu will continue to provide various opportunities for children to voice their opinions and do its best to realize a happy Gwangjin for children."
