'Crime and Accident Risks Inside Elevators' Checked by AI Before Riding... Ministry of Industry Selects 78 Special Projects
The 5th Industrial Convergence Regulatory Sandbox Deliberation Committee Meeting Held
A technology that transmits real-time footage of the inside of elevators in apartment complexes and other multi-family housing units to monitors installed outside, and immediately detects crimes and accidents occurring inside the elevator using AI technology to issue warnings externally, has been selected as a regulatory sandbox project.
On the 18th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 5th Industrial Convergence Regulatory Sandbox Deliberation Committee meeting of 2024 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul, where a total of 78 sandbox projects were reviewed and approved.
First, Union will transmit closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage inside elevators in real-time to monitors located outside the elevator on the first floor or basement level, as well as to the disaster prevention control room. Using AI technology, when a risk is detected, an emergency message will be displayed to deter criminal intent and prevent safety accidents, demonstrating the system's effectiveness.
Three companies including Lulumedic will utilize medical MyData to translate and provide medical information for overseas travelers, and demonstrate safe medication management services and chronic disease prediction services. The government expects this to improve the convenience of medical services.
Food companies certified under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards by private certification bodies that conduct post-management will be exempt from post-management obligations under the domestic certification system (HACCP). Currently, domestic food companies must comply with HACCP under domestic law and separately obtain GFSI certification to meet the demands of global distributors when exporting, resulting in overlapping post-management requirements for both standards. This demonstration is expected to alleviate the burden on food exporters caused by redundant post-management and contribute to an increase in food exports.
Additionally, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy selected three projects for the second phase of the 'Industrial Convergence Planning-type Regulatory Sandbox' following the first phase in March. This is part of the expansion of the planning-type regulatory sandbox operation method included in the regulatory sandbox operation improvement plan announced by the government in August.
This planning-type regulatory sandbox focuses on removing obstacles to AI utilization in industry and will recruit demonstration project operators through a public contest on the Ministry’s website in January next year for three projects: ▲ generation and provision of synthetic data to promote AI utilization ▲ industrial field demonstration of AI-equipped humanoid robots ▲ mobile hydrogen fuel cell generators.
