From Sangbong Station in Jungnang-gu to Busan in One Go... Full Opening of Jungang Line KTX Section
Full Operation of Central Line KTX-Eum Starts from the 20th...Significant Improvement in Transportation Accessibility with a Total of 3 Stops for Both Upbound and Downbound Trains
Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will see the full opening of the Jungang Line KTX-Eum train passing through Sangbong Station.
As a result, the train that previously operated from Sangbong to Andong will now extend to Busan, significantly improving transportation accessibility for Jungnang residents.
The district has been in continuous consultation with related organizations such as the National Assembly and Korea Railroad Corporation to finalize the ‘Jungang Line KTX-Eum train stop at Sangbong Station,’ which was one of the campaign pledges during the 8th local government term.
In April, a meeting with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was held to request the Sangbong Station stop, and in October, after emphasizing the demand for Sangbong Station usage and continuing discussions, it was agreed that out of six daily runs on the full route, three (two southbound, one northbound) will stop at Sangbong Station.
Starting from the 20th, the Jungang Line KTX-Eum train will operate from Cheongnyangni Station, stop at Sangbong Station, and continue to Bujeon Station (Busan). Sangbong Station will have a total of three stops daily: southbound at 6:32 AM and 7:00 PM, and northbound at 3:08 PM.
With this opening, Jungnang residents can reach Busan from Sangbong Station in about 3 hours and 50 minutes without needing to travel to Cheongnyangni Station. Although the Andong to Buk-Yeongcheon section currently does not reach the maximum speed of 250 km/h due to signaling system issues, it is expected that travel time will be further reduced once the train signaling system is upgraded by the end of next year.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “The full opening of the Jungang Line KTX will dramatically enhance the convenience of travel for Jungnang residents and strengthen the district’s accessibility. Even after the full opening, we will continue to conduct demand surveys and consultations to do our best to increase the number of trains.”
