Gwangju City Holds Awards Ceremony for 43 Sports Meritorious Persons and Outstanding Organizations
The Gwangju City Sports Council in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 17th that it held the '2024 Gwangju City Sports Awards Ceremony' at the Gwangju Citizens Gymnasium on the 16th.

View original imageThe event was organized to encourage the efforts of sportspeople who dedicated themselves to the development of sports in Gwangju this year and to foster unity. About 300 people attended the ceremony, including Mayor Bang Se-hwan, City Council Chairman Heo Kyung-haeng, Gwangju City Sports Council President Park Beom-sik, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, officials from Gwangju City Sports Council sports organizations, and athletes.
At the event, awards were presented to 18 sports contributors who worked for the development of sports in Gwangju, 14 recipients of special sports awards, 11 outstanding athletes and coaches, and one excellent organization.
Additionally, training equipment worth approximately 17 million KRW, selected through the Gyeonggi-do Sports Promotion contest, was delivered to the athlete teams of seven sports in the G-Sports Club.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “The year 2024 was a time when Gwangju City could emerge as a central city for sports within Gyeonggi Province. In particular, hosting the 2026-2027 Gyeonggi-do Comprehensive Sports Festival and the Gyeonggi-do Dream Tree Soccer Tournament provided an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of Gwangju’s sports. The hosting and holding of these events will serve as a catalyst to make Gwangju’s sports scene richer and more vibrant.”
