'1000 Won' Again This Year... Seoul Plaza Skate Rink Opens on the 20th

The Seoul Plaza Ice Rink, which has been offering Seoul citizens the opportunity to experience winter sports for '1000 won' since 2020, will open on the 20th. The usage fee remains unchanged at 1000 won this year as well. This year, the Seoul Plaza Ice Rink will conduct 'various collaborations' utilizing the expanded deck space. Collaborations will range from virtual sports and ice sports to various cultural events and sports.
The operating period is until February 9 of next year. The opening ceremony, held at Seoul Plaza at 6 p.m. on December 20, will be attended by key guests including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. The third session on the opening day will be free of charge.
The ice rink operates from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Sunday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays. The caf? operates from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Sunday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays. The concession stand operates from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Sunday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays. To accommodate visitors, the Seoul City Hall main building will also remain open until 9:30 p.m.
Since its first opening in 2004, the ice rink usage fee has consistently included rental fees for skates, helmets, and knee pads for safety. Notably, this year, the Seoul Plaza Ice Rink has been newly included as a partner facility in the 'Discover Seoul Pass,' a special Seoul tourism free pass for foreigners, allowing foreign tourists using the pass to use the ice rink free of charge.
Alongside the ice rink, various experiential events will be held. From December 20 to December 31, an 'eSports Promotion Center' will operate on the permanent stage next to the ice rink at Seoul Plaza. Any citizen visiting the ice rink can directly experience new and fresh virtual sports. From December 20, interactive video experiences will also be available on the media wall on the first floor of the Seoul City Hall main building. When visitors pose in front of the media wall, their image skating at the Seoul Plaza Ice Rink will be displayed on the screen.

The Seoul city government will maintain the best ice quality by performing ice resurfacing after each session and will station safety and medical personnel at all times to prevent accidents and provide prompt response. However, if fine dust levels exceed a certain threshold, the ice rink operation will be suspended. Kim Young-hwan, Director of the Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "This year, the Seoul Plaza Ice Rink is filled with the charm of a winter landmark in Seoul, offering convenience, enjoyment, and safety to citizens." He added, "We hope everyone creates special winter memories at the Seoul Plaza Ice Rink, where happiness awaits for just 1000 won this year as well."
