The Campus Innovation Park project, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Ministry of SMEs and Startups, aims to create a platform within university campuses to support the growth of youth startups, providing innovative workspaces and generating high-quality youth jobs.
The Hannam University Campus Innovation Park utilizes idle land within the university to establish an urban high-tech industrial complex, including startup spaces. It was selected as a leading project in 2019 along with Kangwon National University and Hanyang University ERICA.
Phase 1 of the Hannam University Campus Innovation Park, with a total project cost of 55.9 billion KRW, began construction in September 2022 and will be completed over 28 months by December 2024. It will feature infrastructure and a knowledge industry center with a total floor area of 22,253 square meters, accommodating businesses in information technology, biotechnology, and cultural content sectors.
The newly completed Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub will be used as rental and support space, allowing prospective entrepreneurs and companies to move in, and will also serve as a makerspace and seminar room.
Currently, the Hannam University Campus Innovation Park is expected to be officially designated as the Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone in January 2025, following a review by the Special Zone Committee in December.
Once designated as a research and development special zone, it will be possible to utilize the university's research infrastructure, benefit from government support programs and tax incentives, expand support for research institute companies, and promote the commercialization of public research technology achievements for product development by companies.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "I am very pleased that the nation's first Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub has been established in Daejeon," and added, "Together with the more than 5.35 million pyeong of industrial complexes, including the national nano and semiconductor industrial complex being promoted in Daejeon, this will greatly contribute to Daejeon's advancement as a world-class economic city."
