The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) announced on the 16th that it published a report titled "Factors Influencing Technology Commercialization and Policy Demand Characteristics of Technology Transaction Demand Companies in Busan" on the 12th.

This report analyzes the current status and influencing factors of technology transactions among technology transaction demand companies in Busan, as well as the demand for technology commercialization policies, and based on this, presents measures to improve support policies and revitalize the local technology transaction market.

A survey was conducted targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in Busan that have experience in technology commercialization through technology transactions over the past five years (2019?2023). The responses (from 74 companies) were analyzed using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) to suggest policy directions for revitalizing regional technology commercialization.

Technology transaction demand companies in Busan recognized "support for technology value evaluation costs" at the technology value evaluation stage, and "support for technology development for mass production of transacted technologies" and "support for market entry of technology commercialization products" at the post-transaction management stage as priority policy areas.

When analyzed by groups participating in technology transaction support projects, actual beneficiary companies (those participating in support projects) showed higher demand for the post-transaction management stage, whereas potential beneficiary companies (non-participating companies) showed more concentrated demand for support at the technology value evaluation stage.

Based on the analysis results, BISTEP mentioned that tailored policies should be provided for SMEs, the main policy demanders of Busan’s technology commercialization, according to each stage of the technology transaction process. In particular, it emphasized the need to prepare differentiated support depending on whether companies participate in technology transaction support projects. To enhance the excellent technology commercialization performance of beneficiary companies, it proposed strengthening follow-up support after technology transactions linked with non-R&D company support (investment linkage, technology marketing, export support).

It also emphasized policy support to lower market entry barriers, such as support for technology value evaluation, so that more potential beneficiary companies can participate in the technology transaction market.

Researcher Ryu Soo-min of BISTEP said, "To promote technology commercialization in Busan, it is necessary to establish a customized support system centered on SMEs as policy demanders to activate a private-led technology transaction market," and added, "We must strengthen the linkage between follow-up R&D support for market entry and non-R&D support so that excellent research outcomes of SMEs can be effectively commercialized."

The full report was published as Issue 10 of the "Industry & Innovation Brief" and can be accessed through the BISTEP website.
