Syrian Rebel Leader: "Israeli Presence Inappropriate... Do Not Want Conflict"
"Reconstruction and Stability Are Priorities, Diplomacy Is the Only Security Solution"
Ahmed al-Shara (formerly known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani), the leader of the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), who holds real power in the Syrian interim government, condemned the Israeli military's deployment in the buffer zone within Syria.
On the 14th (local time), according to Reuters and AFP, al-Shara stated in an interview with Syrian TV, "Israel's recent violations cannot be justified by its weakened arguments."
He pointed out, "Israel has clearly crossed the border in Syria, which poses a threat of inappropriate tension escalation in the region."
Al-Shara said, "Syria is exhausted from years of ongoing conflict and war and does not have the capacity to engage in new conflicts," adding, "At this stage, reconstruction and stability are priorities, and we do not want to be drawn into conflicts that lead to further destruction."
He emphasized repeatedly that a diplomatic solution is the only way to guarantee security and stability, stating, "We do not want reckless military adventures."
Regarding Russia, which supported the Bashar al-Assad dictatorship, he said, "Relations between both sides must align with mutual interests," adding, "International relations must be managed carefully at this time."

On the 8th, immediately after the rebel forces led by HTS took control of the Syrian capital Damascus and ousted the al-Assad regime, the Israeli military deployed ground troops into the UN-designated buffer zone within Syria for the first time since 1974.
