Kwon Seong-dong: "Acting Authority System Launched... Opposition Must Not Paralyze State Affairs"
Expecting a "Fair Decision" from the Constitutional Court as Well
Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, urged the Democratic Party of Korea on the 14th, saying, "The acting authority system is now launching. I hope you refrain from frequently impeaching ministers or paralyzing state affairs through legislative dictatorship."
After concluding the People Power Party's members' meeting following the National Assembly's passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol that afternoon, Floor Leader Kwon told reporters, "To restore the daily lives of the people, both ruling and opposition parties should avoid extreme confrontations. There are many pressing issues such as enhancing external credibility and stabilizing people's livelihoods," expressing his views.
First, Floor Leader Kwon apologized, saying, "As the floor leader, I feel regretful and apologetic that the president has come to the point of impeachment."
He continued, "Both citizens who support and oppose the impeachment share the same love for the country. Only the methods differ," adding, "It truly pains me that we are repeating a painful chapter in South Korea's history."
