View original imageAmid stagnation in the domestic legal market, many large law firms are turning their attention to overseas legal markets. In this context, Law Firm Dae-ryun (Limited Liability), which has established its position as a major law firm in Korea (Managing Directors Kim Guk-il and Ko Byung-jun), is accelerating its efforts to pioneer overseas legal markets, drawing attention.
Until now, large domestic law firms have mainly operated overseas branches by establishing offices in Asian countries. However, Dae-ryun is attracting attention by aiming to open an office in the United States, going beyond Asia.
Dae-ryun, which has the largest number of offices in Korea, has built its own legal service system. It believes that Dae-ryun’s unique customer-tailored system, based on its independent technical and service expertise, has now reached a level capable of competing with overseas law firms.
In particular, unlike existing law firms that have expanded overseas by mainly assisting Korean companies in their overseas ventures, Dae-ryun plans to solidify its position as a global law firm through a localization strategy that provides legal services primarily to local companies and citizens in each country. It also aims to generate substantial foreign currency earnings and become a leading K-law firm, contributing to national interests.
According to industry insiders, “Dae-ryun visited New York last month to hold meetings for recruiting local lawyers and to look for office space,” adding, “Since this law firm, which has firmly established its position domestically, has declared its entry into the overseas legal market, its future moves are attracting attention.”
A Dae-ryun representative stated, “It is now time to showcase the system that Dae-ryun has built over a long period to the overseas market,” adding, “By entering overseas markets and competing with leading local law firms, we will promote the expertise of large domestic law firms to the world. This will also have beneficial effects on the domestic legal market.”
Dae-ryun’s goal is not limited to simply establishing overseas offices. Based on a meticulous localization strategy, it plans to actively support overseas offices to generate independent profits and gain a competitive edge against foreign firms.
Expectations for contributing to national interests are also high. By providing high-quality legal services to clients distributed worldwide, Dae-ryun intends to widely promote the Korean market and contribute to economic revitalization through foreign currency earnings.
To ensure successful settlement in overseas markets, Dae-ryun plans to actively recruit talent. This includes not only dispatching domestic lawyers abroad but also large-scale hiring of local lawyers. The goal is to strengthen the legal service foundation by recruiting lawyers proficient not only in local laws but also in legal practices and cultures.
Subsequently, the firm will focus on “system construction.” This involves implementing the legal services provided domestically?such as legal advice, consultation, and litigation services?directly in the local markets. This approach is especially meaningful as it applies Dae-ryun’s unique system to offer high-quality legal services to local clients.
Kim Guk-il, CEO of Dae-ryun, stated, “Currently, the overseas expansion of law firms is practically limited to advising domestic companies,” adding, “They have not been able to secure foreign companies as clients, resulting in no substantial foreign currency income. We plan to address these issues and enhance our status overseas.”

He continued, “At a time when global legal demand is increasing, we expect to provide legal services in various fields.
