Ulju-gun Yeongnam Alps Emerges as a 'Mountain Leisure Mecca'
Final Report Meeting on the 13th for Mountain Extreme Center Service, Facility Construction Including 'Kart Racing' and 'Zip Coaster'
Yeongnam Alps in Ulju-gun, emerging as a hub for mountain tourism, is advancing as a "mountain leisure mecca."
On the 13th, Ulju-gun held the final report meeting for the "Mountain Extreme Center Architectural Planning and Basic Plan Establishment Project" at the Ginkgo Hall of the county office, presided over by County Governor Lee Soon-geol, with related department heads and experts in attendance.
The Mountain Extreme Center, to be built on the site of the Yeongnam Alps Complex Welcome Center, was promoted to provide a healthy mountain experience in response to the spread of climbing culture among young people and the increase in mountain sports participants. It will create an indoor mountain leisure experience facility where everyone from children to adults can enjoy fun and thrills.
Ulju-gun was selected last year in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Southern Region Wide-area Tourism Development Project competition and is conducting the project with 50% of the project cost supported by national funds. A total of 39.5 billion KRW, including national and county funds, will be invested to build the center with a total floor area of 6,260㎡, consisting of one basement floor and two to three above-ground floors.
As an experience facility, the largest indoor kart racing in the Yeongnam region will be created, allowing enjoyment regardless of weather. Environmentally friendly electric racing karts that emit no exhaust or harmful substances and minimize indoor noise pollution will be introduced to operate various courses.
Additionally, the center plans to install the nation’s longest powered zip coaster with a total course length of 200 meters and create the Yeongnam region’s tallest and most extensive course "Theme Climbing Wall."
Furthermore, mountain leisure experience facilities will include the "Adventure Rope," a play facility using ropes, a survival game using laser tag-style guns, and screen-based interactive content.
This year, Ulju-gun completed public architecture review after architectural planning and basic plan services. After the central investment review in January next year, the project budget will be allocated, and architectural competitions and design orders will be issued in June next year. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and be completed in 2027.
Ulju-gun plans to finalize the project by actively reflecting the opinions derived from this final report meeting.
