'Prestigious University Drug Club' Male Member in His 20s Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison
A man in his 20s who used drugs while participating in a joint club formed mainly by prestigious universities in the Seoul metropolitan area was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 11th, the Criminal Division 14 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Chief Judge Jang Seong-hoon) sentenced Hong Mo (26), who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances), to one year in prison, ordered a fine of 1.01 million won, and mandated completion of a 40-hour drug addiction rehabilitation education program.
Hong was arrested and prosecuted on charges of purchasing and using methamphetamine and ecstasy four times, and using LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) twice, while active as a member of a joint club consisting of hundreds of students from 13 universities in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The court stated, "Considering the types, quantities, and frequency of the drugs handled by the defendant, the nature of the crime is serious," and added, "There is a high risk of recidivism, and the impact of hallucinogenic symptoms is significant, making this a crime that requires strict punishment." However, the court also noted, "The defendant admitted to all the crimes and pledged never to touch narcotics again, which was taken into account as a favorable circumstance."
