Six Major Economic Organizations Meet with the Office for Government Policy Coordination to Demand Regulatory Innovation
Discussion on Public-Private Cooperation to Overcome Economic Crisis
Six major economic organizations, including the Korea Employers Federation, met with the Office for Government Policy Coordination to emphasize the importance and urgency of regulatory innovation.
The Korea Employers Federation announced that on the 11th, it held a regulatory innovation meeting in Jung-gu, Seoul, together with economic organizations such as the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, the Korea Economic Association, the Korea Federation of Medium-sized Enterprises, and the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
At the meeting attended by vice chairpersons of the six economic organizations, Nam Hyung-gi, 2nd Vice Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, and Son Dong-gyun, Director of the Regulatory Coordination Office, public-private cooperation measures were discussed to enhance the perception of regulatory innovation on the ground in order to overcome the economic crisis.
Lee Dong-geun, Vice Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, stated, "The regulation requiring the installation of windows (entry windows) that allow firefighters to enter even 'clean rooms' without considering the characteristics of semiconductor structures is unique to Korea in the world," and urged, "I hope such unreasonable regulations will be promptly improved."
Vice Minister Nam said, "Recently, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) gave a positive evaluation of Korea's regulatory policies, but the perception of regulatory innovation felt by companies on the ground still seems insufficient," and emphasized, "We will establish a permanent communication channel with the business community for regulatory innovation and promote regulatory innovation that companies can actually feel on the ground."

Going forward, the business community and the Office for Government Policy Coordination plan to establish a permanent communication and cooperation channel and hold regular meetings semiannually. In particular, the business community will continue to identify regulatory difficulties on the ground that hinder companies' investment expansion and job creation and actively cooperate to ensure that regulations are practically improved.
