Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced the opening of the newly established ‘Seongdong Gardening Center,’ a space where residents can engage in various hands-on activities themed around plants and gardens.
The ‘Seongdong Gardening Center’ is a garden culture enjoyment space reflecting the high demand from residents for gardening activities that offer therapeutic and healing effects. It is located near the Seoul Forest Complex Sports and Culture Center (19 Wangsimni-ro 11-gil), boasting excellent infrastructure and easy access due to its proximity to Ttukseom Station.
The district plans to officially operate the ‘Seongdong Gardening Center’ starting February next year, offering various garden culture programs including a ‘Companion Plant Clinic’ for diagnosing and treating companion plants, and a ‘Village Gardener Training Course.’
On December 8th, a meeting and celebration were held to commemorate the opening of the ‘Seongdong Gardening Center’ together with village gardeners from Seongdong-gu. This event served as a meaningful communication opportunity to share reflections and experiences from past activities, as well as an information exchange platform to discuss future roles and responsibilities. The 33 newly appointed village gardeners also attended, reaffirming their commitment to future activities.
This year, Seongdong-gu trained a total of 94 village gardeners, the highest number among Seoul’s autonomous districts. These village gardeners are expected to actively participate in creating everyday gardens and garden management activities throughout Seongdong-gu next year.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “We expect the ‘Seongdong Gardening Center’ to serve as a resting place for residents and play a pivotal role in revitalizing garden culture in Seongdong-gu.” He added, “We will continue to join forces with local village gardeners to create an everyday garden city in Seongdong where everyone can fully enjoy the pleasures that gardens bring close to their homes.”
