'Appointed After Martial Law' Park Seon-yeong, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Chair, "Will Restore Public Trust"
Following the '12·3 Emergency Martial Law' incident, Park Seon-young, appointed by President Yoon Suk-yeol as the Chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Past Affairs (Truth and Reconciliation Commission), held an inauguration ceremony.

View original imageOn the morning of the 10th, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission announced that Park Seon-young, the 3rd new chairperson, held an inauguration ceremony at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission office in Jung-gu, Seoul, and officially began her duties.
Chairperson Park graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in law and earned a Ph.D. in law from Seoul National University. She worked for 12 years as an announcer and reporter at Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) starting in 1977. She then served as a professor in the Department of Law at Dongguk University and was a proportional representative member of the 18th National Assembly for the Liberty Forward Party. She served on the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification Committee, the Women and Family Committee, and the Special Committee for the Protection of Dokdo Territory. In 2018 and 2022, she ran for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and until recently, she was the chairperson of the nonprofit organization Mulmangcho.

Chairperson Park expressed, "I feel both the weight on my shoulders and in my heart as I take on this important mission during such a critical time domestically and internationally. I begin my role as chairperson with a commitment to help South Korea move toward a more just and harmonious future." She added, "I will strive to ensure that the commission operates efficiently and fairly from a balanced perspective. By strengthening communication and restoring public trust, we will open a new chapter and achieve a beautiful conclusion by November next year."
