Hacking Targeting Tax Information Blocked by 'AI'... National Tax Service Launches Full-Scale Cybersecurity Monitoring System
The National Tax Service (NTS) announced on the 10th that it has established an artificial intelligence (AI)-based cyber security monitoring system to safely protect taxpayers' tax information from cyber threats such as hacking, and has begun full-scale operation starting in December.
An NTS official explained, "To respond to changes in the digital environment and new security threats, the NTS has transitioned its traditionally human-centered security monitoring to an AI-based system, introducing an AI cyber security monitoring system that 'blocks hacking attacks using AI with AI.' AI can quickly analyze tens of thousands of hacking attempts within one second, enabling analysis of all security threats even when a large volume of attack attempts occur, and automatically handles attack blocking and situation dissemination without human intervention."

The NTS expects that the introduction of this AI-based cyber security monitoring system will raise the level of information protection to a new level and serve as a turning point toward scientific tax administration.
The AI security monitoring system was trained with actual attack data used in hacking and developed automatic response procedures for each type of attack, including DDoS attacks, malware infections, and attempts at information leakage. Since its launch in October, it has undergone a two-month stabilization period. During this period, it performed the work of 10 monitoring personnel, accurately analyzing and blocking hundreds of security threats daily on average, with no hacking incidents occurring.

An NTS official said, "In the future operation process, to manage tax information more safely, we will continuously reinforce the AI cyber security monitoring system with new hacking attack techniques through continuous learning to improve analysis accuracy," adding, "The NTS will continue proactive administration by introducing the latest security technologies, expanding security systems, and preparing optimized security policies for tax administration to proactively respond to changes in the cyber security environment."
