It provides children and youth with the opportunity to experience administration by serving as honorary mayors for a day.
On this day, 10 elementary school participants held a commissioning ceremony and then visited the General Civil Affairs Office and Disaster Situation Room to experience administrative sites. Additionally, the students toured the Smart City Integrated Center, where they observed real-time traffic information and the CCTV management system, gaining an understanding of the advanced administrative systems promoted by the city.
They then visited the Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site and the Silhak Museum to learn about Namyangju’s history and cultural heritage. Through cultural explanations, the honorary mayors deeply understood the life and achievements of Jeong Yak-yong and learned the value of a representative figure of the local community.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “I hope the One-Day Honorary Mayor program serves as an opportunity for participants to experience city administration and communicate with the local community,” adding, “We will strive even harder to create a Namyangju where future generations take the lead.”
