Yeongju City Health Center and Senior Welfare Center Care for Elderly Health through Smart Healthcare Project
90% Total Body Fat Reduction
Achieved 85.4% Healthy Lifestyle Practice Rate
Yeongju City Public Health Center announced on the 9th that the ‘Smart Healthcare Project,’ operated in collaboration with Yeongju Senior Welfare Center, has successfully concluded with high participant satisfaction and achievements.
The Smart Healthcare Project is aimed at preventing obesity and managing the health of the elderly by providing systematic education and programs to support a healthy aging life.
Started at the Senior Welfare Center in 2022, this project was operated in a more advanced way this year. In particular, it strengthened personalized health management by monitoring participants' biometric signals and activity levels using smart bands.
Yeongju City Public Health Center selected 12 individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 23 or higher through preliminary screening in March and conducted a customized program for eight months starting in April.
In April, once a week, education on proper walking and eating habits was provided at the Senior Welfare Center, and from May to November, twice a week, water exercises and strength training that do not strain the joints were conducted at the indoor swimming pool and gym.
As a result of the eight-month program, 10 participants, accounting for 90% of the total, showed a reduction in body fat mass, and the rate of practicing healthy living habits (such as physical activity and eating breakfast), which was 54.1% before the project, increased by 31.3% to 85.4% after the project.
One participant said, “By consistently participating in the program, I lost weight and developed healthy lifestyle habits,” adding, “I would like to participate in such a beneficial program again.”
