The Dogye area in Samcheok City, Gangwon Province, was a representative mining village in the 1960s. It enjoyed a golden age due to the activation of mine development and increased demand at the time, but began to decline as mines closed due to decreased demand and coal rationalization policies. Although the local economy is maintained, many residents face economic difficulties, and there is a lack of cultural facilities and educational spaces where children and adolescents can spend time.
After hearing about the difficulties in the Dogye area, Asung Daiso signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2019 with Global Vision to support customized child and youth programs at centers within the Dogye area. Since then, they have continued to deliver happiness boxes and briquettes, and have maintained support such as visiting Daiso stores with children from the Dogye area.
The happiness box is Asung Daiso's representative social contribution project that delivers daily necessities to socially vulnerable groups, families of veterans, small business owners, and families affected by disasters. The contents vary depending on the recipient. This time, the happiness box was composed of study supplies to help children with their studies and toys in celebration of Christmas.
