Gwangju City Clean Water Business Office Wins Excellence Award in General Water Supply Operation and Management Evaluation
Mayor Bang Se-hwan: "Thorough Water Quality Management... We Will Provide Waterworks Administrative Services That Satisfy Citizens"
Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) achieved an A grade, classified as "Very Excellent," in the Ministry of Environment's 2024 General Waterworks Business Performance Evaluation and won the Excellence Award (2nd place).
According to the city on the 4th, the "General Waterworks Business Operation and Management Performance Evaluation" is a comprehensive evaluation of waterworks businesses conducted annually by the Ministry of Environment to improve the quality of water services. It evaluates 168 metropolitan and local waterworks institutions nationwide, divided into six groups based on the population served.
The evaluation indicators consist of 27 items across three areas: △ 9 common items (28 points), △ 18 operation and management items (52 points), and △ a comprehensive evaluation presentation on efforts to improve tap water consumption rates and government policy implementation (20 points), comprehensively assessing all aspects of waterworks business.
Gwangju City ranked 2nd among local governments in Group II (serving populations of 200,000 or more), receiving an A grade (Very Excellent), a certification plaque awarded by the Minister of Environment, and a prize of 10 million KRW.
Following last year's 3rd place "Encouragement" grade, the city solidified its position as a local waterworks government providing the best water administration services by winning the 2nd place "Excellence Award" within the A grade in this evaluation.
In particular, during the final evaluation presentation on efforts to improve tap water consumption rates and government policy implementation, the city received high praise by announcing differentiated policies unique to Gwangju, such as establishing a green algae response system, installing smart drinking fountains with tap water at drowsiness rest areas, building a smart water management system, promoting tap water safety services, publishing the Gwangju Water Purification Plant Network Management Operation White Paper, and implementing a small organism response system project to supply safe and clean tap water to citizens.
