Uijeongbu-si Begins Protecting Elderly Collecting Waste Paper During Winter
Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 4th that on the 3rd, it conducted safety education in cooperation with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority at Hoeryong Station Munyesup to protect the health and safety of elderly people collecting waste paper, who are vulnerable to accidents during the winter season.

In July, the city also provided safety education along with distributing cool sleeves, knee protectors, hats, and information about Uijeongbu City’s life safety insurance.
In the second half of the year, they plan to support rearview mirrors for handcarts, thermal underwear, pain relief patches, and provide detailed explanations about senior job projects and emergency welfare programs.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “I hope this event will greatly help the elderly who collect waste paper to carry out their activities safely during the winter season,” adding, “I hope this will serve as an opportunity to improve the working environment and social perception of the elderly. We will continue to check on the elderly’s well-being and provide ongoing monitoring and support.”

Since 2021, Uijeongbu City has been supporting education and safety supplies twice a year through the ‘Waste Paper Collecting Elderly Support Project.’ Additionally, the city promotes elderly policies, senior job projects, and leisure policies to enhance social participation among the elderly, while continuously providing guidance on coping with heatwaves, cold waves, and traffic accident prevention methods.
