Jeon Gyeong-seon, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, "Forced Integrated Medical School Banners... No Political Exploitation"
"Establishment of Medical School to Ensure Residents' Health Rights"
There has been a claim that Jeonnam Province is ignoring the desperate voices of its residents during the process of promoting the establishment of a national medical school.
Jeon Gyeong-seon, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Mokpo 5), stated during the budget review under the jurisdiction of the Jeonnam Talent Development and Education Bureau on the 26th, “The establishment of a national medical school in Jeonnam must never overlook the original purpose of resolving regional medical blind spots and guaranteeing the health rights of residents. The southwestern region of Jeonnam has many islands, resulting in poor medical accessibility, and it has the highest proportion of elderly population nationwide, leading to high medical demand. Nevertheless, it has long been placed in a medical blind spot.”
He continued, “There have been many tragic cases where residents lost precious lives due to missing the golden time in emergency situations,” adding, “To solve these problems, the efforts and wishes of the residents toward establishing a national medical school have continued relentlessly for 34 years.”
Councilor Jeon particularly criticized, “The desperate voices of the residents should not be used as a means for political achievements,” and said, “Jeonnam Province is ignoring the desperate voices of the residents by, for example, forcing the posting of banners welcoming the integrated university without properly highlighting the efforts and sacrifices of the residents.”
