As voices calling for the resumption of the Gyoeoseon Line increased due to a lack of public transportation, the reopening is being promoted and is scheduled to resume operation by the end of December.
Among the stations, Ilyeong Station is the only manned station among the three operating stations on the Yangju Gyoeoseon Line. It has attracted domestic and international tourists as the filming location of BTS’s “Spring Day” music video, making it an excellent resource for tourism.
The Ilyeong Station restoration project is planned to be created with a retro concept that maintains the existing exterior to evoke the atmosphere and romance of the old Gyoeoseon Line. In addition to the waiting room function of Ilyeong Station, the city proposed various measures for tourists, including the establishment of a tourism promotion center and tourism facilities, and securing passageways to improve convenience for Ilyeong Station users.
A Korea Railroad Corporation official stated, “We will actively cooperate to ensure that Ilyeong Station can establish itself as a representative tourist attraction for regional economic revitalization and tourism industry development.”
