Cheonan City Uses AI to Crack Down on Illegal Long-Term Stays in Daedeok Chinsu District
Korea University of Technology and Education Introduces AI Video Analysis Program
Cheonan City in Chungnam announced on the 22nd that it will introduce an artificial intelligence (AI)-based automatic detection system next year to crack down on illegal long-term stays (Jangbak) in the Daedeok Riverside District of Pungseocheon.
In the Daedeok Riverside District of Daedeok-ri, Gwangdeok-myeon, Cheonan, cooking activities and the installation of camping facilities are permitted for up to three nights per week. However, there have been ongoing complaints due to vehicles staying longer than allowed, long-term abandoned vehicles, and illegal dumping of trash. Enforcement has been difficult because it is hard to verify entry and exit times.
To address this, the city plans to install CCTVs linked to an AI video analysis program developed by Korea University of Technology and Education, which will automatically recognize and analyze trailers, camping cars, tents, and more, sending notifications to officials when use exceeds three nights.
The city aims to use this system to monitor illegal long-term stays and to enhance the system to detect illegal waste dumping as well.
Choi Kwangbok, Director of Construction, Safety and Transportation, said, "We will create waterfront spaces that satisfy citizens and provide a clean and pleasant river environment through cooperation with local universities."
