Daejeon to Restrict Operation of Grade 5 Emission Vehicles Starting in December
Until the end of March next year... 100,000 won fine for violations
Daejeon City announced that from December 1 to March 31 next year, during the fine dust seasonal management period, the operation of Grade 5 emission vehicles will be restricted at all times.
This restriction will be implemented not only in Daejeon but also simultaneously in the metropolitan area (Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon) and other special and metropolitan cities such as Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Ulsan, and Sejong.
During this period, if a Grade 5 vehicle without an emission reduction device is caught by a surveillance camera (CCTV) operating from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, the vehicle owner will be fined 100,000 KRW per day.
Vehicles excluded under the Special Act on the Reduction and Management of Fine Dust?such as commercial vehicles, those with disability badges, vehicles for national merit recipients, vehicles that cannot be fitted with emission reduction devices, vehicles that have applied for low-emission measures, and vehicles owned by basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, or small business owners?will be exempt from enforcement until November 30 next year.
Jung Jaehyung, head of the Air Quality Division of Daejeon City, said, "The restriction on Grade 5 vehicles during the fine dust seasonal management period is an unavoidable measure to protect citizens' health from fine dust," and added, "We ask for your active participation in support projects such as early scrapping of old diesel vehicles and installation of emission reduction devices."
