According to the city on the 21st, the National Veterans Affairs Ministry recently announced its intention to invest 24.5 billion KRW to build the Second Independence Hall by 2027. However, due to an inadequate project proposal, the plan failed to pass the ministry's own review, and there was controversy in the Chungcheong region that the representative status and prestige of the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan could be undermined.
In response, Mayor Park and the Cheonan City Council expressed their opposition to the construction of the Second Independence Hall and have explained the inappropriateness of its installation on various fronts.
Mayor Park stated, "With the establishment of this special exhibition hall at the Independence Hall, Cheonan will once again be recognized as the sacred site of Korea's independence movement, marking a new turning point for the Independence Hall as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of Liberation in 2025."
