Chairman Choi Jae-ho, "We Will Prepare and Implement Effective Economic Revitalization Measures"
The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gyeongnam held the 27th Changwon Economic Research Forum on the 20th at Muhak Good Day Hall under the theme "The Region Must Thrive for the Nation to Prosper."
About 120 participants, including local businesspeople, local government officials, and citizens, attended the forum, which was organized to present the direction of national balanced development policies for sustainable growth in Korea and development strategies utilizing regional characteristics.
The first keynote speaker, Professor Kim Jin-su of the Department of Business Administration at Gyeongsang National University, gave a presentation on the necessity and measures for reforming the corporate tax system to achieve national balanced development.
Following the keynote presentation, the discussion was chaired by Professor Emeritus Seo Ik-jin of the Department of Economics and Finance at Gyeongnam National University.
The first panelist, Kang Sun-ja, Director of the Industrial Complex Planning Division of Changwon City, stated, "Changwon City has served as the hub for Korea's machinery, defense, and nuclear industries, fulfilling its role as a growth engine in the national economic development industrial ecosystem. In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and changes in the industrial environment ecosystem, for Changwon's sustainable future development, it is necessary to foster new industries leading the 'knowledge and information age' beyond the 'industrialization era' and to strengthen advanced technology R&D functions."
Next, Kang Dong-wan, CEO of Developon, said, "To prevent regional extinction and the outflow of young populations, it is necessary to ▲discover and nurture local creators within the region ▲create youth- and women-friendly neighborhoods ▲improve citizens' leisure environments and leap forward as a tourist city through regional rebranding ▲support private projects in culture and tourism industries."
Jung Ho-jin, Research Fellow at the Changwon City Policy Research Institute, suggested, "I hope the renewal of Lotte Department Store Masan Branch and the large-scale development projects linking Masan Fish Market, seafood market, and Masan Marine New City will be designated as commercial revitalization zones and regional coexistence zones. It is necessary to minimize gentrification issues affecting original residents (merchants), provide sufficient investment incentives to investing companies through designation as an opportunity development special zone, and establish a system where unexpected development profits can be returned to the local community by introducing a prior negotiation system for urban planning."
Choi Jae-ho, Chairman of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated, "With the launch of the Masan Economic Revitalization Promotion Committee, we expect various economic actors in the region to unite and inject new vitality into the stagnant regional economy. Going forward, we will prepare and implement effective economic revitalization measures centered on the committee."
