Mokpo Coast Guard Conducts Safety Inspections to Prevent Fishing Vessel Accidents in Autumn and Winter
Participation in Joint Inspection Hosted by Muan-gun and Yeongam-gun
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) participated on the 20th in a joint safety inspection conducted by Yeongam County near the Samho small fishing boat wharf to prevent fishing vessel accidents.
The joint safety inspection was carried out to check compliance with safety regulations for fishing vessels and fishing boats in preparation for the autumn and winter seasons, when fishing activities increase and the likelihood of major accidents and multiple casualties due to bad weather is high.

View original imageEarlier, on the 18th, under the supervision of Muan County, Mokpo Maritime Police, Korea Maritime Safety Authority (KOMSA), and Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative’s Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Bureau participated in an inspection targeting fishing vessels at Muan Masil Port.
The inspection included checking △whether fishing vessels and fishing boats are equipped and maintained properly △whether vessel position transmitters are arbitrarily turned off △overloading of fishing gear and illegal extensions or modifications △promotion of distress button use on communication equipment △verification of fishing boat registration certificates and posting of passenger compliance rules.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “We conducted the inspection together with related agencies to ensure the safe operation of fishermen,” and urged, “Since the autumn and winter seasons bring high waves and strong winds, increasing the risk of maritime accidents, fishing workers should exercise extra caution during operations.”
