Kim Ikang, Mayor of Gwangju Seo-gu, Elected as Secretary-General of the Child-Friendly City Association
“A World Where Children Are Happy... Strengthening Cooperation Among Local Governments”
Kim Ikang, the mayor of Seo-gu District Office in Gwangju, has been elected as the 10th Secretary-General of the UNICEF Child-Friendly Cities Promotion Local Government Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council).
According to Seo-gu on the 20th, Mayor Kim was elected as the next Secretary-General at the Council's regular general meeting held the previous day at the Family Harmony Center in Naepo New Town, Hongseong-gun, Chungnam Province. His term will be one year starting from January 1, 2025.
The Council was launched in 2015 to cooperate in creating child-friendly cities through a network of local governments and to build communities that respect and reflect children's opinions. More than 100 local governments nationwide are active as member cities to promote child-friendly cities.
Mayor Kim said, “The Council will listen more closely to children's voices to create a world where all children are happy, and strengthen cooperation and innovation among local governments. We will do our best to ensure that not only Seo-gu but all children in our country can be safe, happy, and have their rights respected.”
