Yonsei University, "Protection of Rights for Many Examinees" Regarding 'Objection to Suspension of Essay Exam Effectiveness Injunction'
"Measures to Ensure Completion of Entrance Exams Without Disruption"
Regarding the objection to the acceptance of the provisional injunction filed by examinees to suspend the validity of the 2025 academic year Yonsei University early admission natural sciences essay exam, the school stated that it is "to protect the rights and interests of the majority of examinees."
On the 18th, Yonsei University issued a statement saying, "We have filed a procedural objection to promptly obtain the court's final ruling in order to minimize the confusion inevitably caused by the provisional injunction decision and to ensure that there are no disruptions to the upcoming admission schedule," adding, "This is to protect the rights and interests of the majority of examinees who are unrelated to the suspicions raised in this essay exam."
It continued, "We hope that the main lawsuit ruling will be delivered before the announcement of successful candidates scheduled for the 13th of next month to minimize confusion in the admission schedule and prevent disadvantages to the majority of examinees."
Yonsei University stated, "We respect the intent of the provisional injunction decision and deeply reflect on the fact that concerns about the management and fairness of the entrance exam have been raised regardless of the reasons," adding, "We have been conducting multifaceted discussions to ensure that no unfair damage occurs to the vast majority of examinees who took the exam fairly in the subsequent admission schedule."
Furthermore, it said, "We will prepare the best measures to fully complete the 2025 academic year university admissions, including follow-up procedures, depending on the ruling results and dates of the main lawsuit."
Earlier, on the 15th, the Civil Division 21 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Presiding Judge Jeon Boseong) partially accepted the provisional injunction application filed by 18 examinees against Yonsei University, stating, "The progress of follow-up procedures related to the 2025 academic year Yonsei University early admission natural sciences essay exam is suspended until the ruling on the request for re-examination of the essay exam is delivered."
Accordingly, the announcement of successful candidates by Yonsei University is expected to be suspended until the ruling on the invalidation lawsuit of the essay exam is made. However, the court did not make a judgment on the 're-examination implementation' and decided to respect the university's autonomy.
Yonsei University submitted an objection and a request for an expedited hearing regarding the objection to the court on the same day the provisional injunction result was announced, the 15th.
Kim Jeongseon, a lawyer from Ilwon Law Office representing the examinees in a class action lawsuit, stated in a press release on the 17th, "Yonsei University has expressed its intention to file an appeal and drag the case until the 13th of next month if the provisional injunction approval decision is made again," criticizing, "It intends to continue to delay without any action until the announcement of successful candidates."
