The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Lee Myung-jun) has recently been conducting proactive inspections of Chinese fishing vessels operating in the open seas near Eocheongdo and Gageodo.

View original imageAccording to the West Sea Agency on the 18th, on the weekend holiday of the 16th, they actively carried out inspections of Chinese fishing vessels, conducting checks on Chinese vessels fishing within the authorized Korean zone about 57 nautical miles southwest of Eocheongdo, and issued warnings to two foreign vessels that did not have fish hold capacity charts on board.
Last month, the Coast Guard deployed aircraft to block 12 foreign vessels attempting to intrude into Korean waters by performing low-altitude show-of-force flights.
A West Sea Coast Guard official stated, “We will continue to conduct proactive and vigorous crackdowns until the fishing season ends in the southwestern sea area to protect fishery resources and safeguard maritime sovereignty. We will also do our utmost to protect the lives of all citizens so that everyone can enjoy a safe maritime life.”
