The academic conference was held on the 15th at the Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan, Seoul. Marking its 27th session, the conference was conducted to advance the health and medical care of children and adolescents.
The introduction of Labgenomics' NGS technology was presented by Mi-jin Oh, Executive Director and Head of Research. Director Oh explained the paradigm shift in healthcare from a demand-centered approach to a prevention-centered one under the theme "Practical Prescription Application of NGS and the Future of Precision Medicine."
Director Oh stated, "Precision medicine integrates an individual's genomic information, lifestyle, and clinical data to enable personalized health management and disease prediction," adding, "The expansion of NGS-based newborn screening will play a crucial role in the early diagnosis of hereditary diseases and the expansion of treatment opportunities."
She continued, "Currently, about 80% of newborns in Korea undergo screening, but testing is limited to major diseases such as metabolic, endocrine, and hematologic disorders, resulting in restricted test items," and added, "With the introduction of NGS testing, early detection of genetic variations will enable early diagnosis and intervention for various genetic diseases."
