20 Tons of Kimchi Made by 300 Geumcheon Residents... '2024 Sarang's Kimchi Making Grand Festival' Held
Over 300 Geumcheon-gu Residents Gather to Make 20,000kg of Love-filled Kimchi
2,500 Boxes Delivered to Underprivileged Groups and Social Welfare Facilities
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold the ‘2024 Love Kimchi Making Joint Festival’ with Geumcheon residents at 9 a.m. on November 20th in the Geumcheon-gu Office plaza.
The event was organized to help local underprivileged groups struggling with increased kimchi-making costs due to recent climate change and rising prices. It is hosted by the Geumcheon Saemaeul Women’s Association, Geumcheon Food Bank Market Center, and Seoul Community Chest of Korea, and supported by 14 companies including Woori Bank, along with cooperation from local resident organizations.
This year, the kimchi-making events, which were previously held separately by each group, have been planned as an integrated event where the local community gathers together to enhance community bonds.
On the day of the event, about 300 people including members of the Geumcheon Saemaeul Women’s Association, the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Society Geumcheon-gu Council, welfare councils from 10 districts, and volunteer workers from local companies will participate in making and packaging kimchi. A total of 20 tons of kimchi will be prepared to practice sharing with the local community.
The district office plans to deliver approximately 2,500 boxes of the finished kimchi to low-income families and social welfare facilities facing economic difficulties to help neighbors have a warm winter.
