Daegu Pyeongni-dong Train Village
100 People Memory Sharing Event
The Urban Regeneration Field Support Center of Pyeongni 1-dong, Seo-gu, Daegu City (Director Yeochanghwan) held a Train Village Memory Sharing event on the 16th in the soon-to-be-disappearing Yeolcha Village Alley.
About 100 people, including residents of Pyeongni 1-dong, relocated residents of Yeolcha Village, local artists, and volunteers participated in the event, spending time together experiencing the last moments of Yeolcha Village before its demolition through alley tours, alley concerts, Yeolcha Village archiving exhibitions, and food booths.
At the Yeolcha Village Memory Sharing event, local residents are taking a alley tour walking through the soon-to-disappear alleys of Yeolcha Village.

Festival Promotion Committee Chairman Kang Namseop said, “It was a meaningful occasion for residents to share the last appearance and old memories of Yeolcha Village together, and we look forward to the newly transformed Pyeongni 1-dong through the Urban Regeneration New Deal project.”
This event was promoted to remember the last appearance of Yeolcha Village, which will be transformed through the Pyeongni 1-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal project. Yeolcha Village got its nickname because the clustered houses built by refugees who fled to Daegu during the Korean War resembled a train.
In Yeolcha Village, after compensation is completed around the end of this month, 21 households will be demolished from December to June next year, and a public parking lot and Yeolcha Village Memory Park will be created. The Daegu Pyeongni 1-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal project was selected as a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public contest project in 2021, and since 2022, a total project cost of 18.5 billion KRW, including national, city, and district funds, is being invested until 2025 to improve residential environments, expand resident convenience facilities, and establish a foundation for self-sustaining growth.
