First In-Person Meeting in 5 Years

Korea Airports Corporation hosted an event where Northeast Asian airport operators gathered to share the latest trends and future strategies.

On the 15th, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it held the '22nd East Asia Airport Alliance (EAAA)' annual meeting in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

EAAA is an alliance led by 12 airport operators from three countries: Korea, China, and Japan. Established in 2001 to jointly respond to market changes in the aviation industry and increasing air travel demand through exchange and cooperation among airports in the East Asia region, member airports take turns hosting the annual meeting. This year, the corporation hosted the first face-to-face meeting in five years since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was attended by over 60 delegates, including CEOs from 11 airports such as Korea Airports Corporation, China Capital Airports Holding Company, and Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. Representatives from each airport discussed future development strategies for airports in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), smart and digital technologies under the theme "The Future of Airports."

The corporation announced key projects including the '2030 AI Promotion Roadmap' featuring intelligent airport operations using advanced technologies and digital transformation strategies, generative AI chat consultation services, AI X-ray automatic reading systems, and the establishment of an integrated data platform. Additionally, it introduced the world's first Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology managed through digital twin technology from airport design to operation and maintenance.

Next year's EAAA meeting will be hosted by the Hong Kong Airport Authority. Acting President Lee Jeong-gi stated, "EAAA is a key consultative body that responds to global aviation industry changes through proactive exchange and cooperation among member companies. We will lead the global aviation market by expanding mutual air routes and revitalizing passenger traffic."
