Busan National University Selected as Southeast Regional Hub University for 'Intellectual Property Specialist Training Project' by the Korean Intellectual Property Office

Support of 7.3 Billion KRW for up to 10 Years, Recruitment of New Students for the Newly Established Intellectual Property Convergence Major from December 2 to 6
Pusan National University (President Choi Jae-won) was selected as the ‘Southeast Regional Hub University’ for the ‘Intellectual Property (IP) Specialized Workforce Training Focus University Project’ supported by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and signed a business agreement at the KIPO Seoul Office on the 13th.
This project is promoted to train specialized personnel in intellectual property (IP) and to support local companies in securing and utilizing intellectual property rights.
As the Southeast Regional Hub University, Pusan National University will receive 3.5 billion KRW in government funding over five years, and up to 7.3 billion KRW over a maximum of 10 years (5+3+2), to foster specialized talent in the field of intellectual property.
Pusan National University plans to establish an ‘Intellectual Property Convergence Major’ in both undergraduate and graduate programs to cultivate IP experts, and operate various educational programs in cooperation with regional innovation and educational institutions. Additionally, it will build and provide an industry-academia cooperation IP education system linked to Pusan’s key industries such as ultra-precision, materials and components, and silver care technology.
Through this, Pusan National University is expected to produce customized intellectual property professionals demanded by local industries, and local companies will be able to timely recruit IP specialists, creating opportunities for mutual growth between the university and industries. Furthermore, Pusan National University will also offer free IP consulting and educational programs for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on an ongoing basis, which is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of regional SMEs.

The undergraduate (convergence major) program will be launched in the first semester of the 2025 academic year and can be completed as a double major, minor, or microdegree.
