Seoul Jung-gu Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Parking of Electric Kickboards
Organizing Jung-gu Office Staff Task Force for Crackdown Until Year-End
Strengthening On-Site Patrols in High-Report and Immediate Towing Zones
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegally parked personal mobility devices (electric kickboards) from the 11th until the end of the year. As concerns over safety accidents have increased due to indiscriminate electric kickboard parking, the district has rolled up its sleeves to protect pedestrian safety.
The district operates a special crackdown team composed of Jung-gu Office employees to strengthen on-site monitoring. The team will focus patrols around major subway stations with high foot traffic and designated immediate towing zones. Electric kickboards parked disorderly will be immediately caught on the spot and towed by specialized companies.
Jung-gu is an area where tourist zones such as Myeongdong and Dongdaemun, as well as companies, media outlets, and financial institutions are concentrated, resulting in many office workers and tourists using the subway. There have been frequent reports of pedestrian inconvenience caused by abandoned electric kickboards near subway stations. Accordingly, the district decided to carry out intensive crackdowns around major subway stations.
In addition, patrols will be strengthened focusing on sidewalks and roads designated as immediate towing zones, separated roads and bicycle lanes, within 5 meters of subway station entrances, within 5 meters of bus stops and taxi stands, within 3 meters of crosswalks, on braille blocks, and in protection zones for children, the elderly, and the disabled to prevent accidents and protect vulnerable pedestrians.
Meanwhile, before the full-scale crackdown, the district also requested shared kickboard companies to expand voluntary collection of abandoned electric kickboards.
