"Children's Beds, Up to 5 Times Price Difference by Brand... Some Products Lack Antibacterial Effect"
Most Products Meet Quality and Safety Standards
Cost-Effectiveness Rated 'Excellent' for Ladygagu and Hanssem
The prices of children's beds available on the market were found to differ by more than five times between products. Some products also showed discrepancies between the antibacterial effects of the mattresses as indicated in their labeling/advertising and the actual performance, requiring improvements.
On the 7th, the Korea Consumer Agency announced that after testing and evaluating the quality and safety of mattresses and frames of eight major children's bed brands, and verifying the antibacterial claims in mattress labeling/advertising, these findings were confirmed. The eight brands surveyed were Kkumkkuneun Yosep, Ladygagu, Livart, Petit Lapin, Simmons, Andersen Illoom, Hanssem, and others.
In the main test evaluations by category, among the five products that claimed antibacterial functionality on their mattresses, three products confirmed antibacterial effects with a reduction rate of harmful bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae) of 99.0% or higher. However, the 'First Sleep Mini Pocket Spring Mattress SS (Petit Lapin)' product showed a reduction rate of less than 99.0% for Staphylococcus aureus, and the 'Daily Kids Mattress SS (Illoom)' product showed less than 99.0% reduction for both bacteria, indicating no antibacterial effect. Additionally, all five products that claimed antibacterial functionality failed to provide accurate information regarding the types of test bacteria, test methods, and bacteria reduction rates, indicating a need for improvement.
Among the eight products, seven had 'excellent' mattress durability, while one product, the 'First Sleep Mini Pocket Spring Mattress SS (Petit Lapin),' showed somewhat insufficient spring resilience under high load, rated as 'average.' Most products met the relevant standards for mattress and frame quality and safety. However, the 'Roan Bonnell Spring Mattress SS 20T RA2SS02 (Kkumkkuneun Yosep)' product showed insufficient tensile strength in the vertical (length) direction of the mattress cover when pulled, although the horizontal (width) direction met the standards.
Five companies?Muyu (Kkumkkuneun Yosep), Ohaim & Company (Ladygagu), Haroworld (Petit Lapin), Andersen (Andersen), and Illoom (Illoom)?omitted some or all mandatory labeling information such as the KC mark and manufacturing date on mattresses and frames, requiring improvements. Product prices ranged from 419,000 KRW to 2,240,000 KRW, showing a maximum difference of 5.3 times between products. The combination of Ladygagu's 'Melo Low Bed Daybed Frame SS' and 'Ttobagi Mattress Ddanddani 14 SS' was the cheapest, at about 18.7% of the price of the most expensive product.
