Gwangju Seo-gu Selected for Integrated Care Project for People with Disabilities Competition
Selected from Elderly to Disabled... First in Honam Region
Commissioner Kim Ikang: "Establishing a Nationwide Integrated Care Standard Model"
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) has been finally selected for the ‘Community Integrated Care System Establishment Project for Elderly Disabled People’ contest.
With this, Seo-gu, Gwangju became the first in the Honam region to be selected for integrated care contests not only for the elderly but also for the disabled, receiving project funding over three years until 2027.
This project aims to categorize services for elderly disabled people in a super-aged society and provide individualized customized services, establishing an integrated care system within the community that supports health, care, housing, and leisure so that elderly disabled people can live stable daily lives.
Through this project, Seo-gu plans to focus on providing personalized life management (meals, laundry, etc.), rehabilitation recovery (exercise prescription, physical therapy, etc.), and opportunities for social participation, targeting residents among the elderly disabled who are either not receiving activity support services or have care gaps despite receiving such services.
Mayor Kim I-gang of Seo-gu said, “By collaborating with the Seo-gu Disabled Welfare Center, we will apply the six years of accumulated experience and know-how in integrated medical and care support to elderly disabled people to create a system of integrated care for the elderly and disabled,” adding, “Before the Integrated Care Support Act is enforced in 2026, Seo-gu will do its best to become the national standard model for integrated care.”
