The battleground is famous for being a course designed by Woods. This golf course opened in 2014. It is the first golf course created by Woods' course design company, TGR Design Team. Since last year, this tournament has been held at El Cardonal. It was recorded as the first PGA Tour event held on a course designed by Woods.
El Cardonal resembles the golf courses in Southern California where Woods played frequently as a child. It offers beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The course was designed so that players can attempt various strategies on every hole. In last year's tournament, Adam Long (USA) did not miss a single fairway over four days, indicating that the fairways are wide and the greens are also large. Long was the first player since 1992 to keep all fairways throughout the tournament.
The course has a slope of 4%, with a 70-meter difference between the highest and lowest points. Variables such as short grass due to the desert terrain and winds adjacent to the sea are also factors. The pre-tournament rounds are broadcast through Golf Channel across the United States, Mexico, and all of South America.
