Uijeongbu City Provides High-Quality Yangjugol Rice to All Senior Centers in the Area
Creating Wellness (Welfare Well-being + Health Fitness) Senior Centers
Mayor Kim Dong-geun is visiting local senior centers, providing meals and communicating with the elderly.
Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 1st that it recently replaced the rice supplied to all senior centers in the area from the existing government rice (Narammi) to high-quality Gyeonggi rice (Yangjugol rice) to promote healthy eating habits among the elderly.
To this end, the city signed a 'Senior Center Gyeonggi Rice Supply Agreement' with Uijeongbu Nonghyup last September to promote local rice consumption and enhance welfare for the elderly.
Currently, 256 senior centers in the area provide meals to the elderly an average of 2.5 days per week, and the city plans to additionally support 3 to 9 bags of rice per senior center by the end of this year. The city is also considering increasing the workforce participating in the 'Warm Meal Table' program through senior job opportunities.
A senior at one of the centers said, "The mayor prepares meals for us and cooks rice with good quality rice, so the rice tastes especially sweet today," adding, "We ask for continued interest and support for the senior centers."
