EU Investigates China Temu for Digital Services Act Violations
The European Union (EU) is conducting an investigation into the Chinese online shopping platform Temu for violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA is a law introduced to prevent the spread of online misinformation and harmful or illegal products and content.
On the 31st (local time), the European Commission stated in a press release that the investigation will assess potential legal violations related to Temu's sale of illegal products, potential addictiveness, and recommendation algorithm methods.
Earlier, on the 11th, the Commission sent an information request to Temu asking them to explain what measures they had taken to prevent the sale of illegal products.
However, based on a preliminary analysis of the responses and information submitted by third parties, the Commission decided that a formal investigation was necessary.
Temu is expected to prepare corrective measures and submit them to the Commission to avoid fines.
If found to have violated the law, fines of up to 6% of the company's global annual revenue may be imposed.
