Dongdaemun-gu Seoul Semiconductor High School Meister High School Newly Designated
Received 5 Billion KRW Support from Ministry of Education... Recruiting New Students for 2026 Academic Year
Reorganized Existing 3 Departments into Semiconductor Equipment and Manufacturing Departments
Seoul Semiconductor High School (formerly Hwikyung Technical High School), located in Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung), is making a new start as a Meister High School in the semiconductor field designated by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education has additionally selected Seoul Semiconductor High School and Gyeongju Technical High School as Meister High Schools in the semiconductor field, recruited to foster talent in advanced industries. Each school will receive 5 billion KRW in support from the Ministry of Education to be used for constructing and renovating dormitories and practice rooms, as well as revising curricula.
Meister High Schools are special-purpose high schools that cultivate practical talents tailored to industry demands. There are 57 such schools nationwide, and in Seoul, four schools operate in the fields of energy, new media content, robotics, and overseas construction and plant engineering.
Seoul Semiconductor High School plans to reorganize its existing departments of Electrical Control, Smart Electronics, and Eco-friendly Automobiles into Semiconductor Equipment and Semiconductor Manufacturing departments to recruit new students. After preparation for the school opening, it will operate as a Meister High School starting from the 2026 academic year, with plans to concurrently conduct educational training to secure excellent teachers in the semiconductor field and strengthen teacher expertise.
Additionally, in cooperation with Seoul National University Semiconductor Joint Research Center, University of Seoul, and local industries, the school will strive to nurture outstanding talents. It plans to systematically cultivate semiconductor technology masters by securing state-of-the-art equipment such as semiconductor extended reality (XR) process and equipment practice rooms and advanced automated factory (smart factory) practice rooms.
Dongdaemun-gu will actively support curriculum development for semiconductor talent cultivation, online and offline job guidance for teachers, and educational practice for students.
