The Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Tae-sang) won multiple awards, including the gold prize, silver prize, and encouragement prize, at the '2024 Chem Frontier Chemical Engineering University Student Creative Design Competition' held on the 16th at BEXCO in Busan.

View original imageThis competition, held during the 2024 Fall General Meeting and International Conference of the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers, was a nationwide event co-hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Kumho Petrochemical, Lotte Chemical, SK Geocentric, and LG Chem.
Under the theme "Designing an Innovative Future with Chemical Engineering," a total of 42 teams related to chemical engineering from 10 specialized colleges nationwide competed to showcase their skills.
Gyeongnam Information University participated with seven teams and won the gold prize for the project titled "Manufacture and Utilization of Calcium Chloride by Recycling Waste." They also achieved the silver prize (Development of Greenhouse Gas Adsorption Activated Carbon Using Waste Plastic) and the encouragement prize (Eco-friendly Material Using Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) from Discarded Oyster Shells Causing Environmental Pollution), marking a remarkable success.
Park Tae-ho, a sophomore who won the gold prize, said, "Under the guidance of our professor, my team members and I developed ideas and gained confidence for employment and valuable experience through experiments," sharing his thoughts on receiving the award.

Kim Byung-chul, head of the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering, said, "I am proud of the students who won awards by developing creativity, collaboration, and communication skills while carrying out team projects based on their major knowledge," adding, "We will continue to do our best to nurture professional talents in the fields of chemical engineering and new energy industries that will lead social change."
